The City of Laguna Beach will close Forest Avenue and Glenneyre Street overnight through the end of the week for crosswalk work at the intersection of the two streets. The closures run nightly from 9:30 p.m. to 9 a.m. on both streets between Beach Street and Mermaid Street, according to a city announcement posted Wednesday.

Wednesday night's shift includes a concrete pour that could run past the planned reopening and extend into the morning, the city said. The announcement says all of the work is planned to finish by Friday.

Drivers are advised to use Coast Highway and Broadway to bypass downtown while the closures are in effect. The city posted detour directions for traffic coming off Forest Avenue, Ocean Avenue and Beach Street, and Glenneyre Street and Park Avenue, and said surrounding streets remain open.

The night work arrives amid a broader round of downtown street and sidewalk improvements. Laguna Beach Patch reported this week that downtown road work is getting underway this month, with construction barricades already part of the downtown scene.
