Laguna Beach voters have one week to get registered for the Nov. 3 general election. Monday, Oct. 19 is the last day to register to vote in the election, according to the California Secretary of State.

The local stakes are set. Three City Council seats are on Laguna Beach's Nov. 3 ballot, with nine candidates running. All nine appeared together at the Greater Laguna Beach GOP candidate forum on Sept. 23, and eight of the nine, with Edward Bayuk out of town on business, also met at the South Laguna Civic Association forum on Oct. 6.

Voting is already underway. Every active registered voter in California receives a vote-by-mail ballot, and county elections officials began mailing ballots by Oct. 5. Secure ballot drop-off locations opened Oct. 6, and ballots can be returned by mail, at a drop-off location, or at the county elections office. Mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day.

For those who prefer to vote in person, the first vote centers open Oct. 24, with additional locations opening Oct. 31. On Election Day, Nov. 3, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Missing the Oct. 19 deadline does not end the road. California's conditional voter registration period runs from Oct. 20 through Election Day: anyone can go to the county elections office, a satellite office, or a vote center to register and vote a provisional ballot.
